January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month, and ENC Stop Human Trafficking is ramping up its education efforts in honor of it. ENC Stop Human Trafficking will be hosting two Human Trafficking 101s this month. It is co-hosting a documentary screening of Be the One alongside the Pitt County Coalition Against Human Trafficking and the North Carolina Coalition Against Human Trafficking. ENC Stop Human Trafficking is also delivering the message of prevention with a forum, welcoming professionals involved in the anti-human trafficking movement to discuss how to prevent children from exploitation. |

ENC Stop Human Trafficking Now will host Protection and Prevention: Forum to Discuss Human Trafficking Prevention beginning at 6 p.m., Jan. 15, at Farmville Middle School, Media Center, 3914 Grimmersburg St., Farmville. The forum will include discussion about internet safety, manipulative tactics of traffickers and warning signs of human trafficking. The forum will include expert panelists Pam Strickland, ENC Stop Human Trafficking; Bonnie Jean Kuras, TEDI Bear Advocacy Center; and Chief Chauncy Congleton, Pitt County Sheriff’s Office, with a Q&A. Human Trafficking 101 |
ENC Stop Human Trafficking Now will hold a Human Trafficking 101 community training beginning at 6 p.m., on Jan. 24, at Sheppard Memorial Library, 530 Evans St., Greenville, and on Jan. 29 at 6:30 p.m. at Neuse Regional Library, 510 N. Queen St., Kinston. The training will provide information on what human trafficking is; what it looks like in Eastern North Carolina; what the red flags and warning signs are; what to do to report human trafficking; and how residents can become involved in the anti-human trafficking movement. Be the One |
The Pitt County Coalition Against Human Trafficking in conjunction with ENC Stop Human Trafficking and the N.C. Coalition Against Human Trafficking will host a documentary screening of “Be The One,” at 6 p.m. on Jan. 31, at Pitt Community College, Goess Student Center, in Winterville. The documentary looks at various actions that every day people took to stop human trafficking situations. This documentary screening will not only look at how regular people made a difference in the fight against human trafficking, it will also shine a light on what your community is doing or could be doing in the fight.
